Making a million isn’t actually that hard.

By Jon in Resources, Video

David Heinemeier Hansson, partner at 37signals recently gave a wonderful talk at the recently held startup school. In the video posted below he gives a refreshing talk on how so many people are blinded by raising funding and selling their startup people have forgotten how to make a solid, profitable business.

There were also some other great videos that are worth checking out. (Be warned, I spent almost an entire evening watching these so only check them out if you have some time to kill). You can check out the other videos here.

I’m sure you’ll agree, he makes some very good points. Make something people want, charge money for it, profit. Although it does make it sound frighteningly easy.

Watched it this past weekend. I think David is correct.. in his experience.

He does in passing tell of businesses taking years to become profitable, but that gets swallowed up in his dream come reality of making products that are almost instantly commercially successful.

37Signals was a sort of consultancy/design shop prior to this foray into SaaS… it probably struggled there… just like us all & had to keep trying new things. It finally stumbled upon something that worked. Well.

It is relatively easy to make money online, but it does require you to be able to produce a good web application and have patience. Not just anyone can come up with a good idea and execute that idea. And then it takes a whole other type of person to be able to re-work that idea until you’ve got something good and let it grow without getting frustrated and discouraged.

I really liked this. It was a great talk and I think he is a great speaker.

As for the making a million isn’t hard well… Well that really depends.

I dont get it, those guys from 37S said in the 37S blog that is better for a business the people who are workaholics, and now 10 hours a week is just fine? Nevermind, great sense of humor.

And indiestartups is a great blog, thanks.
